What is photorejuvenation with IPL?
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is a non-invasive skin treatment that can be used to improve the overall colour and texture of your skin by addressing age spots, sun damage and other pigmentation problems as well as skin redness (such as rosacea) and other irregularities which make the complexion appear uneven. The treatment is known as “photorejuevantion” or a “photofacial” because we are using light energy to regenerate the skin. An IPL is different to a laser in that it uses multiple wavelengths and a broad spectrum of high-intensity light. Lasers use a single wavelength that is specifically designed to target one thing, either melanin (pigment), water or hemoglobin/blood vessels.
What does IPL photorejuvenation treatment involve?
IPL photorejuevantion is a relatively quick, non-invasive method of rejuvenating the skin using light energy. Treatments typically take around 30 minutes and are fairly comfortable. During the procedure, intense pulses of light energy are fired onto the skin to stimulate collagen production, target pigmentation and skin redness and minimise fine lines and wrinkles associated with premature ageing.
Is IPL photorejuvenation safe and is there any recovery time?
There is no significant downtime associated with IPL photorejuvenation although we advise you to avoid the sun and wear and SPF of at least 30 for a minimum for 48 hours after treatment.
Some people may experience a bit of redness and capillaries on the face may be more visible immediately after treatment but these side effects usually reside within a few hours after treatment.
As with any treatment, a consultation is important beforehand to assess your suitability for IPL photorejuvenation and ensure the procedure is right and safe for you and your skin type.
What kind of results can I expect with IPL photorejuvenation?
You can see a difference after one photorejuvenation treatment with IPL although the results usually develop gradually in the weeks following treatment as the skin rejuvenates. The treatment can improve the general tone, colour, evenness and texture of your skin making it look softer, smoother and more youthful.
